Bain & Company: A VR arcade for an annual retreat in Phuket
For Bain & Company's 2017 annual retreat, we brought a VR arcade to the Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa at Nai Yang Beach. The evening had a travelling funfair theme, and the brief was to give colleagues games they could try as part of the retreat's wider competition.
Working with Bain's organising team, we selected experiences to suit the theme and discussed how participation and high scores could contribute to the event. Carnival Games VR formed the basis of the selection, with Space Pirate Trainer and Raw Data also requested.
One practical detail needed a different approach: the carnival game's built-in leaderboard was designed around a single user. We proposed tracking scores separately, and agreed a whiteboard leaderboard with the organisers so the competition could accommodate different players.
The booking grew from two VR stations to three during planning. Our role covered the VR equipment, game selection and technical setup, with James and an assistant attending the event. We arranged arrival the day before for setup and testing with the organising team, while the hotel supplied the display screens.
