Check Point: GovWare Singapore VR experience

For GovWare Singapore in October 2024, VRG delivered a VR cybersecurity challenge for Check Point. Visitors entered a facility under attack, spoke with its security team and answered questions about how to respond.

The project grew out of our earlier work at Check Point's CPX events. The Singapore team wanted to bring a VR experience to its stand at GovWare, which ran from 15 to 17 October. We adapted the experience around a new script, conversational characters and questions developed with Check Point's team.

A security incident told through four characters

The story begins with unexplained network slowness. Helen, the emergency response coordinator, asks the visitor whether to investigate internal systems or external threats. The conversation introduces the incident before the player moves into the facility to help the other specialists.

Each character covers a different part of the response:

  • Helen: investigating network traffic and containing an attack.
  • Abhi: identifying cloud vulnerabilities and improving visibility and control over cloud assets.
  • Anthony: responding to ransomware that entered through a phishing email, including isolating affected machines and securing users' devices.
  • Rebecca: bringing the response together through coordinated security operations and a unified security platform.

These roles gave the visitor a reason to move through the environment and speak to each character. Check Point's product messaging appeared within the incident: a problem had occurred, a specialist explained it, and the visitor had to consider what to do next.

Conversation and scored decisions

We used Convai for the character conversations and shared browser-based character demos with Check Point during development. This let the team review the dialogue before the event.

The questions had weighted scores. For example, one asked what to examine first when investigating a suspected attack, with different marks assigned to firewall logs, a vulnerability scan and packet capture. Other questions addressed cloud visibility, common infection routes and security operations.

We also revised questions for spoken interaction. A list of product names can be awkward to remember and compare during a conversation, so we proposed replacing one recall question with a question about security operations. The wording had to work when a visitor heard it through a headset.

Fitting the message into an event session

Timing was a practical constraint. During the final reviews, we increased the limit to 120 seconds per character. Even then, adding more dialogue risked leaving visitors without enough time to hear the material and respond.

The script also had to follow the scene's actions. Helen's instruction to press a red button triggered the move to the next location, so it needed to remain at the end of her scene. We worked through those dependencies with Check Point while updating the technical content.

This meant reviewing the words, the available time and the player's next action together. A technically correct paragraph still needed to fit the conversation and leave room for participation.

Delivery at GovWare

We worked with Helen Liew, Abhishek Kumar Singh and Anthony Kwang on the script, supporting graphics, terminology and character reviews. The application ran on Meta Quest 3, with team walkthroughs before the event and final dialogue changes ahead of the Singapore delivery.

The resulting experience gave Check Point a participatory way to explain its cybersecurity approach at GovWare: visitors worked through an incident, heard from specialists and made scored decisions within the story.
